Maersk Unveils Innovative Weekly Ocean-Rail Service to Enhance Central Asian Market Connectivity

Maersk is excited to introduce a cutting-edge transportation solution designed to seamlessly link key manufacturing hubs in the United States, the Far East, and particularly the Mediterranean and Europe with the thriving Central Asian markets. This groundbreaking end-to-end intermodal shipping and rail transport service is set to revolutionize cargo logistics, especially for consumer, lifestyle, and tech products, facilitating smoother access to the burgeoning consumer markets in Central Asia. While this tailor-made solution is initially centered on Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, it lays the foundation for expanded logistics services in neighboring countries like Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Sedef Ayhan, Managing Director of Maersk's East Mediterranean Area, expressed, "In addition to our established rail connection through China, there has been a growing demand among our Western hemisphere customers for a logistics solution along this corridor, seamlessly integrated into our global network on the European end. We are delighted to meet this demand with our dedicated new offering, providing our customers with a reliable means to import and export their products to and from the Central Asian markets."

The pivotal Georgian port of Poti serves as the primary gateway connecting to Maersk's expansive global ocean network. From Poti, cargo embarks on a seamless rail journey to Baku in Azerbaijan. From there, it crosses the Caspian Sea en route to Aktau. Finally, the cargo reaches its ultimate destinations in Central Asia, including Almaty, Astana, and Tashkent, via a highly efficient train network.

To ensure uninterrupted and dependable logistics, Maersk has established last-mile connections in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan through a dedicated trucking network. This strategic approach enables the efficient and secure delivery of cargo to its final destination, minimizing delays and elevating overall customer satisfaction.

The transportation solution is further strengthened by a dedicated control tower team responsible for overseeing and managing the entire operations process. This team ensures a streamlined and coordinated approach to cargo handling, provides real-time updates, and promptly addresses any potential challenges that may arise during transit.

Maersk's comprehensive rail and ocean-rail network from South-Eastern and Eastern Asian countries already serves to connect these markets with Central Asian countries through China, further solidifying its commitment to enhancing global trade connectivity.
