Evergreen is cutting transpacific capacity on the PSW route
by almost a third in the upcoming slack season, PR News Service has learned,
and there
could be further capacity cuts on the route co-inciding with
this move. The PSW cutback follows that
on the PNW route, where, as already reported,
Evergreen will merge the Pacific Northwest part of its
USWC/Asia/Med (UAM) pendulum service with China Shipping's ANEW1 service
On Evergreen Transpacific Southwest (TPS) service, the
present weekly capacity is 6,330 teu, but from late October that will be
gradually reduced
to around 4,300 teu by the beginning of December
Four "D" class vessels of 4,200 teu capacity, and
a 5,000 teu vessel will begin phasing in to the TPS from the last week of
October replacing
five x 6,330 teu vessels which have been deployed on the TPS
through this year
Evergreen's 31% drop in capacity on the TPS service is among
the highest the line has made on the transpacific through any slack season
period,
and comes at a time when already lines within the New World
Alliance have confirmed their intention to pull transpacific strings (see
earlier reports)
