Having just upgraded its ASAX service to the Far East,
under-pressure Chilean ocean carrier CSAV, is now also upgrading its Euroatlan
service from ECSA to northern Europe.
On the Euroatlan Sling One, CSAV has added an extra
vessel, allowing them, and their partner Maruba, to call at an extra four
ports, in Europe and in South America.
The additional ports of call are Tilbury and Le Havre in
Europe, and Rio de Janeiro (southbound), and Rio Grande in Brazil. With the
Itajai call - now possible because the south Brazilian port has regained most
of its pre-flood 10.5m draught - CSAV and Maruba will choose to call there or
nearby Sao Francisco do Sul, depending on how much cargo is loaded at the
previous port of call (Paranagua).
The weekly service will now deploy six vessels of around
4,000 TEU capacity; K Line and China Shipping will continue as slot charterers.
The first sailing on the upgraded Euroatlan was May 21,
from Buenos Aires, with the Maruba Cristina.
The revised port rotation is: Buenos Aires, Montevideo,
Rio Grande, Paranagua, Itajai [subject draught restrictions], Santos, Rio de
Janeiro, Salvador, Rotterdam, Tilbury, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Rio de
Janeiro, Santos and then back to Buenos Aires
