Re: Korean Laws against overweight
Please take note that Korean Customs will apply to much
stricter law for over weight from Jan.03 in 2005. All of carriers, including
freight forwarders, who are responsible to declare their manifest to Port
Authorities, will be responsible for any differences between weights in
shipping documents and actual weights by heavy fines. The customs will consider
any of differences as tax evasion nevertheless by mistake.
For bonded transportation, all of cargoes more than 25 tons will
not be accepted by the Customs.
For your reference, the thumb Korean rules related to
weights on domestic loads are as follows :
-container upto 40 tons including cargo gross weight + container tare
weight + trailer head weight + chassis weight
-upto 10 tons per chassis axle
-upto 2.5m in width
-upto 4.0m in height
-upto 16.7m in length
If we calculate backward, normally we can say upto 17.5 tons
per 20ft, 21 tons per 40ft. These weights vary case by case.
For above applications are nothing to do with their
intention.
In this respect, please deliver the notice to your
customers or any relevant parties in order to avoid heavy penalty. As
mentioned, the responsibilities are not only for traders, but also for
carriers.
