Shanghai handles record number of boxes in March

 

THE port of Shanghai handled a record number of containers in March, according to the China’s Ministry of Communication.

 

Figures from the Ministry showed that Shanghai Port handled 3.1 million TEU in the first quarter of the year, up 26 per cent year-on-year.

 

Over the first quarter, the port handled an average of 33,800 TEU each day.

 

In March alone, the port handled 1.145 million TEU, a new record for the port in a single month.

 

As for total throughput, the port handled 30 million tons of cargo in March, up 26 per cent compared with the same month last year, while over the first quarter the port handled 87 million tons of cargo, up more than 20 per cent year-on-year.
