Evergreen is joining the slow steaming league on the China
Europe Shuttle (CES) service from the third week of December with the
introduction of an additional vessel, the 6,330 teu Ever Elite, bringing the
service deployment up to ten vessels Ever Elite phases into the CES service at
Kaohsiung on December 18th joining nine 7,024 teu "S" class vessels,
and allowing for savings on fuel costs To date, Evergreen has mainly shied away
from the slow steaming initiative, but now with the Asia/Europe slack season underway
and other lines proceeding down the same route, Taiwan's largest carrier is
keen to cut its operational costs and provide deployment to vessels that would
otherwise proceed to lay up
The additional CES vessel was one of the Evergreen fleet
expected to be mothballed after being withdrawn from the Transpacific South
service (TPS), but will still spend several weeks in temporary lay up in
Kaohsiung until CES deployment
